Pool Filter Cartridge

Pool filter cartridges are one of three different types of pool filtration systems that most people use to keep their pool and spas clean and blue. Filter of choice for most spas and many in ground and above ground pools, the cartridge filter is becoming more popular every year. Pool filter cartridges are very similar to DE filters except there is no need for DE filter media. Cartridges should be replaced about every five years, they can last longer if they are cleaned and maintained properly. A proper working cartridge should be taken apart and cleaned 2 or 3 times a year.. Now if your filter system is undersized, your pool has an algae problem or you just get a lot of debris from the landscaping around your pool then your pool filter cartridge may last only a couple of years.
How it works
Water flows through the pump into a tank that houses one or more cylindrical cartridges of fine mesh, pleated fabric (usually spun polyester). The extremely tight fabric mesh strains impurities out of the water down to about 20 microns. Engineered for strength and durability, Reemay® media is made of continuous filaments and will not ravel or fray; in addition, it has no binders to dissolve and weaken the media during use. Reemay is pleated and wrapped around a heavy plastic or pvc core that allows water to flow from the outside of the cartridge to the center core. Pool filter cartridges are bound on each end with a heavy type of rubbery plastic that is melted or fused to the ends of the rolled up pleats and the inner core.
